 Joan Applebaum, Windy Hill Studio Arts,  Indian River Lakes and Lewes, Delaware.

   An active professional artist who has exhibited her work throughout New York State.  She holds memberships in the Central New York Branch of the National League of American Pen Women , Associated Artists of Syracuse,   North Country Arts Council, The Arts Association of Northern New York and  Bay House Artisans in Alexandria Bay.

 

Artist Statement

                       My inspiration comes from my surroundings; in particular the woodlands and waterways of Upstate New York and Coastal Delaware. 

I love working with color. I am not concerned with capturing the true color of an object for that will change with light, darkness or atmosphere, but with using color to convey depth and form and emotion.

It is the emotional engagement of artist and viewer that I strive for.

Inspiration may come from the sunlight on the dunes or the quiet stillness of a North Country lake with the shimmer of light and color dancing upon it. Other times inspiration comes from the merge of heart and mind in an image only the artist can create and the viewer can interpret. Color is the conduit connecting artist to emotion, and emotion to viewer. It is the emotional engagement of artist and viewer that I strive for. 

Artist Bio.

Joan Applebaum’s colorful paintings of the cities, woodlands and waterways of Upstate New York have been exhibited in galleries across the state. She maintains an active teaching schedule and offers painting classes at the Thousand Islands Arts Center, the Sackets Harbor Arts Center and the Rehoboth Art League. Her recent move to the coastal town of Lewes, Delaware has provided new inspiration and a new body of work.

Joan maintains a studio at her home base in Lewes and at her camp where she summers in the Indian River Lakes, NY.

You can find her artwork at Bay House Artisans in Alexandria Bay, NY, River Muse in Clayton, NY (summer),  the Rehoboth Art League Gallery, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and the Pen Arts Building, Washington DC.
